The Village at Cedar Ridge in Vancouver, Washington, is a community of fine Craftsman-style homes in a park-like neighborhood of mature evergreen trees.  Many of the homes, including this one, have garages in back, accessed through an alley, in a style reminiscent of an era long ago.  Clark County recognized the quality and livability of this neighborhood with its Community Pride Design Award.  If you love trees and vintage Craftsman architecture, then this could be the home that you are looking for.

Conveniently located near the I-205 and SR-14 freeways, this home is a tranquil retreat from the frenzy of city life, yet  is only 13 minutes from the Portland International Airport and within 23 minutes of the rich mix of fine dining, shopping, cultural, entertainment, and employment offerings in beautiful downtown Portland, Oregon.  On the Washington side of the Columbia River, even closer to home, countless retail stores, top-rated hospitals and medical services, and personal and professional enrichment at Clark College and Washington State University’s Vancouver campus are practically at one’s fingertips.  Southwest Washington Medical Center (ranked one of the top 100 hospitals in the nation) is practically next door.

Also contributing to the high quality of life are the many outdoor recreational and sight-seeing attractions within about an hour’s drive, a few of which include the picturesque Oregon coast, the renowned Willamette Valley wine country, the scenic Columbia River gorge, and Oregon’s majestic Mt. Hood.  As an added benefit, retirees and residents who live and work in Washington also enjoy keeping more of their hard-earned dollars because there is no state income tax in Washington.  This is compared to the roughly 10% combined state and local income tax burden for Portland area residents a few miles to the south.  Many also shop in Portland which has no sales tax.

This immaculate (2,356 SF) home is located in a community of “vintage” Craftsman homes with front porches facing the street and garages on a rear alleyway.  Many mature trees were preserved during the development of this community, giving it an older, established appearance, but with the conveniences of newer construction, systems and appliances.  Two wooded neighborhood parks, maintained by the homeowner association, are relaxing retreats.

You walk up to the front of the house, past mature trees, and step onto the front porch where you can spend warm summer afternoons visiting with neighbors, if you choose.

Just inside the front door are the formal living room (with trayed ceiling) on one side and the formal dining room on the other.  A spacious office with a wall of built-in cabinets and bookshelves adjoins the living room through French doors.

The rear of the home houses the kitchen, eating area, family room and utility room.  This open area has a spacious, light feel, with its many windows.  Durable and practical laminate flooring is used in the kitchen and eating area.

The kitchen has ample counter and cabinet space, with an island for informal dining and food preparation work.  The glass-top stove offers easy cleaning.  An eating area adjoins the kitchen.  A window bench seat, overlooking the back yard, is part of the eating area.

The carpeted family room, with its gas fireplace, is a relaxing place to enjoy family evenings.

All four bedrooms are on the second level.

You enter the master bedroom through double doors from the second level landing.  The vaulted ceiling accentuates the spaciousness of this room.  The current owners installed a couch to provide a reading area at one end of the room.  A walk-in closet offers ample space for clothing.

The master bathroom has a shower and a jetted tub.  The private commode room is a desirable convenience.

The oversized, extra-deep garage (506 SF) has room for two cars and storage (or a workshop area).

The wonderfully landscaped, fenced back yard has a concrete patio for relaxed and private entertaining.  A retractable awning provides shade and protection from rain when desired, yet can be retracted to allow more sunlight to reach the house.

The garage faces an alley that runs behind two opposite rows of houses.  There are no driveways on the streets in front of these homes.

If you love living among trees in a quiet neighborhood, if you love vintage Craftsman style, and if you want to be conveniently close to Portland, shopping and a first-rate medical facility, this could be your perfect home.
